SAFETY AND BACK UP

ABOUT OUR SAFETY AND BACK UP PROCEDURES

We maintain stringent expedition safety and back-up procedures to ensure that we are fully compliant with industry standards expected of UK expedition companies, which are among some of the most rigorous in the world.

PARTNERS

We have a very well-established network of in-country partners with whom we have been working for at least 10 years. We undertake regular recces of all the destinations to ensure that nothing has changed without our knowledge.

24-HOUR BACK UP

Outposts operates a 24 hour back up service. All our teams are equipped with a smartphone and satellite technology to reach us by any means. Emergency procedures are co-ordinated in conjunction with our UK head office.

INSURANCE

Outposts Ltd will provide comprehensive travel and medical insurance for all expeditioners for the duration of the expedition. We have Public Liability to £10,000,000 and Employer’s Liability to £10,000,000 and can provide copies of our insurance certificates on request.

EXPEDITION LEADERS

All our leaders have prior experience of leading expeditions for young people. They hold the relevant activity qualifications and outdoor first aid. Their role is to help the team develop skills such as communication, independence and confidence and well as ensuring their safety.

BS8848 COMPLIANT

Outposts Ltd conforms to the British Standard 8848:2014 and as such all risk assessments and safe working practices adhere to this Standard. More information on the British Standard 8848 can be found on the BSI website.

GOVERNMENT ADVICE

We always work in line with the latest advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth office and recommend you also keep yourself informed.

TRAINING

Expeditioners attend two pre-expedition training sessions to help bond the team, learn what to expect from life on expedition and raise any potential risks involved and for tactics to avoid incidents to be discussed.

MEDICAL SUPPORT

Outposts has robust medical emergency procedures which are BS:8848 compliant and works with a 24-hour medical emergency assistance provider. Expedition Leaders hold current first aid certificates and carry a comprehensive list of in-country hospitals and first aid kit.
