OPEN NEPAL EXPEDITION HIGHLIGHTS

Travel on an Open Expedition to Nepal and experience:

 

  • Trekking: through rain forest, sub-tropical lowlands, forests of bamboo and rhododendron, desert plateaux and rice paddies.
  • Experience diverse cultures: climb stone staircases and stay in high mountain settlements.
  • Visit the Chitwan Jungle and Asian Elephant Breeding Centre: go on elephant safaris, canoe rides, jungle walks.
  • Explore Kathmandu: meet its people, learn about their beliefs, culture and customs; marvel at the  beautiful temples.
  • Cultural interaction: prepare and deliver lessons, interact with the children, maintain and decorate classrooms.

 

DURATION: 21 DAYS | WHEN: JUNE/JULY | ACCOMMODATION: TEA HOUSES

TREKKING

The Expeditioners will fly to Pokhara in the foothills of the Annapurna’s, situated in central Nepal, it is the most geographically and culturally diverse region for trekking. There are sub-tropical lowlands, valleys, forests of bamboo, oak and rhododendron, alpine meadows and windswept desert plateaux. The area is home to over 440 species of birds and animals including the elusive snow leopard.

ACCOMMODATION

On the trekking phase expeditioners will stay in tea houses, which are small, simple eco lodges, known as Bhatti in Nepalese, that offer a place to sleep and home-cooked meals. The accommodation for the rest of the expedition is in comfortable 2-star hotels.

TRAINING

One full day and overnight—pick up the following morning. Get to know the rest of the group through team building activities and find out important information about life on expedition.

COMMUNITY

Working in a school, the Expeditioners will have an opportunity to teach some English and other subjects, play games and sports and will provide the manpower and materials needed to give the classrooms and any other facilities much needed maintenance and improvement.

EVENINGS

Evenings are spent unwinding after trekking in the teahouse playing cards or learning something new like traditional

TRAVEL TO HEATHROW

A coach will pick up and drop off Expeditioners and their Leader at Taunton Hankridge layby. For the return, members of Outposts staff will be waiting at arrivals in the airport to greet the group and escort them and the Expeditioner Leader to the coach.

ENVIRONMENT

In the Chitwan National Park the Expeditioners will see a variety of game, birdlife and fauna. They will participate in a variety of programmes that include elephant safaris, boat rides and jungle walks escorted by expert naturalists, guides and mahouts (elephant carers and trainers).

LOCATION

The expedition begins in Kathmandu and the group then move into the Annapurna Region for their trekking and community phases. Finally going into the Chitwan National Park.
