OPEN NAMIBIA EXPEDITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Game: spotting game on drives and treks.
  • Camera traps: setting camera traps for the family of leopards and possibly seeing them first hand.
  • Scenery: Stunning desert sunsets and sunrises.
  • Projects: Working on conservation and community projects which will have a long-term impact.
  • Experiencing camp life in a breath-taking mountainous, semi-desert wilderness.
  • Earn 16 UCAS points (equivalent to a B at AS level) doing ASDAN CoPE Level 3 alongside the expedition.

 

DURATION: 10 DAYS | WHEN: OCTOBER | ACCOMMODATION: TENTED CAMP

Conservation

You will carry out everything from tracking and monitoring reptiles, leopards and other and mammals on day and night safaris, sand dam building and fixing water points for wildlife to removing invasive species and fencing, nocturnal moonlit biodiversity surveys and building hides.

ACCOMMODATION

You will be staying in a Bedouin style tented camp with comfortable beds. The main octopus tent has a dining area, library, sofa, and plenty of cushions. The bathrooms have hot showers and flush toilets and electricity is generated through solar power for a real off grid experience.

TRAINING

One full day and overnight—pick up the following morning. Get to know the rest of the group through team building activities and find out important information about life on expedition.

Community

The community work is done in Warmbad, the local village and depending on the need at the time you will get involved in a food security project, tending to the vegetable garden for the local primary school and participate in education workshops.

Evenings

Evenings are spent around the campfire talking about the day, sharing thoughts and experiences, bonding as a team, discovering 'yourself'.

TRAVEL TO HEATHROW

A coach will pick up and drop off Expeditioners and their Leader at Taunton Hankridge layby. For the return, members of Outposts staff will be waiting at arrivals in the airport to greet the group and escort them and the Expeditioner Leader to the coach.

Surrounded by breath-taking desert scenery in an utterly secluded location, you couldn’t find a more perfect place for meditation and yoga with guaranteed Milky Way views to add to the spiritual journey in this little slice of paradise.

LOCATION

The expedition is based in the Oana conservancy, which is 45,000 hectares of private game reserve. It is an impressive mountainous semi desert with 50 km of lush paradise Orange River. It is prime habitat for the Black Rhino and the aim is to re-wild the farmland and create a National Park within the next 10 years.
