Outposts - overseas expeditions

What is an Open Expedition?

What is an Open Expedition?

Outposts' pre-planned Open Expeditions are OPEN to all young people, aged 15-17 at time of travel, to join individually, with friends or with a group from school and depart on set dates during the school summer holidays. We currently offer two destinations - South Africa and Nepal.

Open Expeditions provide an opportunity for all young people to experience the benefits and challenge of overseas travel as part of a group, which may be difficult for schools to organise where there are insufficient numbers of students to plan an expedition.

Outposts is a registered ASDAN partner, which means that students travelling on an Outposts Open Expedition can achieve the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Excellence (CoPEL3) and earn 70 UCAS points.

Outposts' Open Expeditions can also be used as part of your Gold DofE residential.

Outposts Expeditions operate to the highest standards of quality and safety.

What to expect on an Open Expedition

Every young person on an Outposts' expedition will meet their fellow expeditioners on the two pre-expedition training sessions held in October and April. They will then be ready to start an enriching and life-enhancing journey which combines physical challenges with heart-warming cultural interaction; they will learn important life-skills, experience real adventure, have great fun and grow from having shared their journey with new friends.

Open Expedition review

Open Expedition review

"Robert and I would just like to "thank you" all for the "once in a lifetime opportunity" that Rebecca had in South Africa - she has made some great friends in the other cadets and has very high regard for all the adults who were involved in this magnificient trip. The photos that we have seen are amazing and the memories will last her a lifetime."
