ILM qualifications overview

Outposts is an approved Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Centre and as such can offer accredited qualifications in leadership. Leadership is about inspiring others; making the right decisions and understanding people, their strengths and weaknesses, then motivating them to work towards a common goal. An ILM Award with Outposts will help students to develop these skills, ensuring they have the techniques they need to become a leader.

How ILM qualifications with Outposts work

How ILM qualifications with Outposts work

Each award requires students to achieve a certain number of credits through completing various ‘units’. There are multiple units and we offer those which can be completed in the outdoors.

  • Choose type of award
  • Select units appropriate to your students
  • Outposts build a bespoke programme based on the level and units selected
  • Complete training: studentss undertake a week-long residential programme

Students are required to complete a bespoke workbook to evidence and reflect on their learning. This is created by Outposts for each course member. These are then marked and successful candidiates will be awarded their qualification by the Institute of Leadership & Management.

On the course, we shall offer students the opportunity to undertake their qualifications experientially through planning, executing and reflecting upon a variety of tasks and challenges, both inside and outdoors. The use of a practical learning environment will allow students to use and develop their teamwork and leadership skills in real situations.

They will undertake their qualification through a series of theoretical workshops and practical tasks with plenty of opportunities for them to analyse and reflect upon their own performance.

Our facilitators, most of whom have interesting leadership backgrounds, are specifically trained in delivering elements of the ILM. They will help students to understand a range of leadership styles and models and help them learn how to decide which to use in different situations.

Once students have completed the ILM Award with us, they will have had the opportunity to acquire a solid frame of reference from which they can draw, grow and develop into a strong and dynamic leader.
